Modelling and simulation
Investmech uses PC Matlab and in-house programmed algorithms in conjunction with MSC dynamic simulation software to solve and simulate complex coupled mechanical, thermal and structural systems including:
- Simulating the dynamic response of a 10 railway vehicle train for the Taiwanese Railways to find the root cause for motion sickness and to recommend solutions for the problem.
- Mine conveyance dynamic simulation for ride comfort and fatigue
- Military vehicle rigid body and axle response simulation to calculate road inputs from measured strain and acceleration responses and to find the optimal damping of the vehicle from a ride comfort point of view.
- Calculation of structural inputs on railway couplers during shunting, impact caused by loaders and normal travelling.
- Calculation of the time dependent temperature distribution in a casting to find the phase transformation and microstructure distribution dependent mechanical properties and residual stress.
- The Lagrange method is applied to find equations of motion for complex dynamic systems. The non-linear state and time dependent equations of motion is then solve by a variable or fixed step Runge-Kutta method. Recent projects are:
- Transient dynamics of rope supported weights attached to moving carriage.
- Transient dynamics of dragline buckets
- Transient simulation on a mortar launcher to determine the root cause for measured acceleration spikes resulting in premature failure of attached parts. The solid model of the launcher was used in finite element based transient analysis and structural inputs calculated using a Nelder-Mead algorithm with Monte Carlo generated boundary conditions.
- Crash simulations
