Mechanical Engineering Services
Investmech Mechanical Engineers are involved in a wide range of high-tech projects requiring distinguished knowledge of mathematics, fatigue, fracture mechanics, structural mechanics, metallurgy, dynamics, vibration and other applied mechanical engineering subjects.
Finite Element Analysis
Finite element modelling and analysis is used as a tool in design and structural integrity assessment projects. However, it is also offered as a standalone service to our clients where the client provides us with models and structural inputs.
At Investmech, we add value to the field of Finite Element Analysis by being one of the experts in the world that reconstructs input forces for measured strain and acceleration responses. The MSC and ANSYS suite of packages are used for finite element analyses. We also use Prokon for finite beam element analysis on structures. Previous work include mission profile driven finite element analysis based structural integrity assessment of an LHD load box and finite element modelling of fluids in containers.
Machine and Structural Design
At Investmech, we offer a design service where products are realised that complies with requirements of applicable national and international standards as well as mission profiles. We have vast experience in mission profile development and the use thereof in defining structural inputs and compliance criteria. Previous work include LHD Load box design, Monorail bogie system and scissor lifts.
Modelling and Simulation
Investmech uses PC Matlab and in-house programmed algorithms in conjunction with MSC dynamic simulation software to solve and simulate complex coupled mechanical, thermal and structural systems. Previous work include dynamic response of a 10 railway vehicle train for Taiwanese Railways, transient dynamics of dragline buckets, crash simulations and much more.
Noise and Vibration
At Investmech, we offer vibration measurement, analysis and control and noise measurement, analysis and control as well as courses on the topic. Previous work include attenuation specification for the Gautrain underground station and motion sickness on railway vehicles.
Pipes, line pipes, pressure vessels and pressure containing systems
At Investmech, we offer the following:
- Strain, acceleration and temperature measurements on high temperature pressure vessels, ladles, refractory, furnaces, steam pipes, etc.
- Strain and acceleration measurements and control on pipes.
- Remaining life prediction of underground pipes subjected to various environmental conditions.
- Modal analysis and operational mode extraction on pressure vessels
Projects include fit-for-purpose calculations on flawed water line pipes, corrosion of pipelines and flow and pressure distribution.
Root Cause Analysis
We carry out cause and effect analysis to find the root cause for failures. Typical examples of this are gear failures, bearing failures, structural collapse and accident reconstruction. Projects include tempered martensite shaft and axle failure, spontaneous fracture of hatchback window glass, and drive train failures.
Structural Inspections, Audits and Certifications
We perform structural inspections, audits and certification for remaining life of plant structures and concrete structures. Typical elements included in a visual structural inspection are columns and their foundations, beams, conveyor belts, crane super structures, tunnels, culverts, etc.
Structural Integrity
We specialise in structural integrity and were involved in quite a number of projects over the past years. At Investmech, we ensure structural integrity of machinery and structures applying experience, standards and mission profile driven requirements. Previous work include operating torque limits, vehicle structural integrity and transient strain and acceleration responses of a headgear.
Testing
We are equipped with servo-hydraulic and other test equipment that enable us to serve all structural and fatigue test requirements. At Investmech, we offer a niche service in accelerated durability testing. We also have vast experience in the instrumentation and measurement of strain, acceleration, force, temperature, flow, pressure, current and voltage. Recorded signals are used on a continual basis in the verification of structural integrity, or the solving of engineering problems. Examples of previous work include exhaust thermal fatigue testing, ROPS and FOPS testing and multi-poster accelerated durability testing.
Ventilation
At Investmech, we analyse and optimise ventilation systems using Monte-Carlo or Nelder-Mead analyses, depending on the requirements. We did the sizing of the ducts, fans and sound attenuation for the Gautrain underground stations and emergency shafts. We apply international and national standards to ensure that ventilation systems do not produce annoying noise in the system area and the surrounding environment.
Certification
We have professional engineers who are responsible for a range of certifications from roof structures to ship loaders to park rides. We also have the ability to act as expert witness in court cases and disputes.

Project Management
Upon managing projects, Investmech integrates all management aspects. Projects are planned in multi-disciplinary approach and include for example risk management, procurement and contract management, quality management, human resource management and communications management. Investmech manages all its own projects and is also been responsible for the project management of turnkey projects that constitute phases from analysis through design and finally manufacturing and implementation.
